Nomenclature:

English Name/Meaning: Hundred Labors
Chinese Name: 白劳
Chinese Pinyin: Bailao
This point is also known as jingbailao.

Location:

Located on the neck, 2cun above GV14(Dazhui), 1cun lateral to the posterior median line.
Or
2 cun superior to the lower border of the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra (C7) and 1 cun lateral to the midline.

Indications and Functions of Bailao :

  • Bailao clears empty heat and benefits lung so is beneficial in cough, asthma, spontaneous sweating, night sweating (pulmonary TB), steaming bone hectic fever.
  • Also transforms phlegm and transports nodules so is beneficial in scrofula.
  • Also good for sweating of the pharynx, cough.
  • Local disorders: stiffness and pain in the neck.

Method :

Perpendicular insertion 0.5-1.0 cun.

Remarks:

Good for Neck rigidity and scrofula

Dr. Ishwar Gyawali is Consultant Acupuncturist and Ayurveda Physician from Kathmandu, Nepal. He had completed BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery), a five and half year course on Ayurveda Medicine from Kirtipur Campus affiliated to Tribhuvan University ,Institute Of Medicine, Nepal under scholarship in 2011.
