Chengling GB18: Nomenclature, Location, Functions, Indications

 

The brain dominates the mind.The parietal bone is also called the " Tianling" bone. Chengling is just lateral and inferior to it.

Cheng: support Ling: spirit

Chinese Name: 承灵
English Name/Meaning: Support Spirit
Pinyin: chéng líng
Han Geul 한글: seung nyeong 승령
Romaji: shō rei
Vietnamese: Thừa linh

Location:

On the head, 4 cun above the anterior hairline and 2.25 cun lateral to the midline of the head.

Functions of Chengling:

  • Stimulates the dispersion and descent of lung Qi.
  • Benefits the nose.

Indications:

  • Disorders of head: headache, migraine, vertigo, dizziness.
  • Nasal disorders: stuffy nose, nasal bleeding.

Method:

Transverse insertion 0.5 to 1.5 cun.

Remarks:

Meeting point of gallbladder and yangwei vessel.
