Nomenclature:

Shi : stone Guan: importance
Stone here means “hard” in consistency. Shi guan is an important point for the treatment of abdominal disease.

Chinese Name: 石关
English Name/Meaning: Stone Gate
Pinyin: shí guān

Location:

3 cun above the umbilicus, 0.5 cun lateral to Jianli (Ren 11).

Functions of shiguan:

  • Strengthens the middle jiao, regulates stomach and intestine.
  • Clears blockage in the intestine, uterine area.

Indications:

  • Vomiting, abdominal pain, Constipation.
  • Post partum abdominal pain, infertility.

Method:

Perpendicular insertion 1 to 1.5 cun.

Remarks:

Meeting point of Kidney and chong vessel.

Precautions:

Deep needling may penetrate the peritoneal cavity.
