Nomenclature:

English Name/Meaning: Sun (Supreme Yang)
Chinese Name: 太阳
Chinese Pinyin: Taiyang

Location:

In the region of the temples, in the depression about one finger-breadth posterior to the midpoint between the lateral end of the eyebrow and the outer canthus.

Functions and Indications :

  • Taiyang courses wind and dissipate heat so is good for headache, vertigo, insomnia, itching and pain in eyes.
  • Also clears heat and brightens eyes, so is useful in disease of eye, swelling and pain of the eye.
  • Invigorates channel and reduces pain: toothache, facial paralysis, facial pain

Method :

  • Perpendicular needling 0.5 to 0.8 cun.
  • Transverse insertion posteriorly towards Shuaigu GB-8, 1 to 1.5 cun.
  • Oblique insertion anteriorly 0.3 to 0.5 cun.
  • Prick to bleed.

Remarks:

One of the most important and commonly used extra point points for headache.
