3 cun lateral to Jizhong (GV6), at the level of the lower border of the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra.

Functions of Yishe:

• Clears and drains damp heat.
• Tonifies the spleen.
• Benefits intellect.
• Stimulates memorization and concerntration.

Indications:

• Poor memory and concentration, Obsessive thoughts.
• Abdominal distension, borborygmus, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty in swallowing, sensation of heat, jaundice.

Method:

Oblique insertion towards lateral 0.3 to 0.5 cun.

Remarks:

Good for intellectual issues due to spleen.

Precautions:

Deep perpendicular or needling in a wrong direction carries a substantial risk of causing a pneumothorax.
