Nomenclature:

Qi: qi (vital energy) She: residence
Qi refers tot he vital energy of the lung and stomach. Qishe is beside the trachea, like a residence for the Qi.

Name: Qishe
English Name/Meaning: Abode of Qi
Pinyin: qì shè
Han Geul 한글: gi sa 기사
Romaji: ki sha(?)
Vietnamese: Khí xá

Location:

Superior to the medial end of the clavicle, in the depression between the sternal and clavicular heads of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Functions:

Benefits the throat and neck and descends qi.

Indications of qishe:

  • Sore throat, pain and rigidity of the neck, asthma, hiccup, goiter.
  • Esophagus problems – vomiting, belching, nausea.

Method:

Perpendicular insertion 0.3 to 0.5 cun.

Precautions:

Deep insertion may puncture the lung.
