Nomenclature:

Tao: moulding Dao: pathway
The Qi of the Zang-fu organs gathers on the Governor Vessel and ascends along this way so named as taodao.

Location:

Below the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra.

Functions:

  • Dispels external pathogenic factors.
  • Clears lung heat.
  • Regulates shaoyang stage.
  • Cools heat and calms the spirit.

Indication:

Stiffness of back, headache, malaria, febrile disease, sore throat, poor memory.

Method:

Puncture obliquely 0.5 to 1 cun.

Remark:

  • Meeting point with the BL channel.
  • Main point for malaria and febrile disease.

Precaution:

The spinal canal lies between 1.25 and 1.75 cun deep to the skin surface, varying according to body build.
